The Assignment:
Students will have to write a personal reflection based on how “digital” has affected their everyday lives. They can discuss how their lives have been influenced by digital technologies, including their use of social media, digital platforms, etc. This assignment aims to encourage students to reflect on the ways how the internet/social media has transformed daily routines, social interactions, and access to information.
Why AI would not be useful:
AI would not be useful because it is unable to accurately convey each students unique subjective experiences and reflective thoughts. Personal reflection essays are inherently subjective and personal, requiring students to introspect and articulate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in their own lives. AI lacks the capacity to understand and convey emotions, memories, and insights that students may express in their reflections. Reflective writing also involves the expression of emotions, values, and beliefs that are central to students’ experiences with the internet and digital technologies. AI algoritms may struggle to recognize and interpret the emotional messages that students’ narratives express, which prevents analysis from being real and empathetic. Lastly, reflective writing may involve the discussion of sensitive or private experiences, thoughts, and beliefs. AI algoritms, which process data without ethical considerations, may not be able to handle confidentiaI information appropriately.
